Constance Sambray
Constance Helen Sambray (née Crabbe; 28 April 1938 – 28 March 2021 (aged 82)), known as Connie, was a Fort William businesswoman and a granddaughter of the machinist Paul Vander Kaa.
Early life
Constance Helen Crabbe was born on 28 April 1938 and raised in Fort William, a daughter of Matthew Crabbe and Josephine Crabbe (née Vander Kaa).[1]
Business career
Together with her husband Gary, Sambray owned and operated Sambrays Services on May Street, and later Sambrays Neebing Services on Rosslyn Road. She subsequently opened her own store, Sambrays Variety, on Gore Street. She later worked at the Kmart cafeteria and the Zellers Skillet Restaurant.[1]
Personal life
Sambray married Gary Sambray Sr. (Gary William Sambray, c. 1938–2004), and the couple had two sons, Gary Sambray Jr. and Mark Sambray.[1][2] At the time of her death she had seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Her sisters included Pauline Freamo, Maxine Otway, and Edie Jenkins.[1]
Death
Sambray died on 28 March 2021 at Southbridge Pinewood.[1][3] Following cremation, a private family interment was held at Mountain View Cemetery in Thunder Bay.[1]
