Edith Jenkins
Edith Mae Jenkins (née Crabbe; 1933/1934 – 11 March 2022), known as Edie, was a resident of Thunder Bay and later of eastern Ontario, a daughter of Matthew Crabbe and Marie Josephine Crabbe (née Vander Kaa) and a granddaughter of the Fort William machinist Paul Vander Kaa.
Life
Edith Mae Crabbe was a daughter of Matthew Crabbe (1908–1961) and Marie Josephine Crabbe (née Vander Kaa, 1907–1987).[1] Her sisters were Pauline Freamo, Constance "Connie" Sambray, and Maxine Otway.[1]
She married Ted Jenkins, who predeceased her.[2] The couple had five children: James Edward Jenkins, who predeceased her; Matthew (married Fenna); George (married Nora); Elizabeth (married Donald McIntosh); and Nancy (married Michael Ford).[2] She was survived by twelve grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; an infant granddaughter, Lianne McIntosh, had predeceased her.[2] Edith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.[2]
Death
Edith was the longest-lived of the four Crabbe sisters, surviving Pauline (died 2011), Maxine (died 2020) and Connie (died 28 March 2021).[1] She died at the Rosebridge Manor in Jasper, Ontario, on 11 March 2022, at the age of 88.[2] A visitation and a funeral service were held at the Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn in Maitland on 16 and 17 March 2022, with a memorial gathering by the Order of the Eastern Star.[2]
