Obituary
Margaret Helen (Doak) Hansen was born in Fort William on 11 October 1927 to the late Walter and Dolly Doak and died at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on 13 November 2007.[5][6] The Legacy.com copy of her Chronicle-Journal obituary is dated 15 November 2007, while the Thunder Bay Public Library's obituary index lists a Chronicle-Journal notice on 16 November 2007 (section B, p. 13); the two may be separate notices.[5][6] Her obituary says:
- As a young girl she played drums and percussion with Maurice Jackson's All Girl Orchestra; she kept a lifelong love of music.[5] The Fort William Daily Times-Journal pictured her with the Fort William Girls' Military Band in December 1941 and with the Jackson all-girl orchestra on tour in November 1948.[7]
- She worked for many years at Birk Stitt Jewellers and Walter Brown Jewellers, retiring in 1992, and belonged to St. Mary's ACW and St. Mark's Anglican Church (Rosslyn), volunteering at Shelter House.[5]
- She was survived by her five children with Knute: Betsy Ristimaki, Jim Hansen, Margit Campbell, Kris Hansen and Lynda Wiesbrock; by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by three sisters; and by her brother-in-law Tor and his wife Maureen.[5]
- She was predeceased by Knute (in 1988), her parents-in-law Sigrid and Harald Hansen, and Knute's brothers Arne and Erling and sister Esther Mackereth.[5]
She is buried with Knute at Sunset Memorial Gardens (headstone "Margaret H. 1927 - 2007").[8]
Knute and Tor founded the Little Norway ski hill, later Big Thunder.[9]
