Bonny Wigmore (died (2019-09-20)20 September 2019) was a Port Arthur resident who retired from Lakehead University as its paymaster, served on its board of governors and was treasurer of the Retirees' Association of Lakehead University.[1]

Life

Bonny was born in New Brunswick and came to Ontario as a toddler after the Second World War, following her father's army service. After a stay in Nipigon her family settled in Port Arthur, where she lived for the rest of her life. She graduated from Lakeview High School, married David, and had two sons, Jason and Gerry. She had a demanding career, retiring from Lakehead as Paymaster, and served on the Lakehead University Board of Governors; after retiring she stayed active in the retirees' association as treasurer. The family spent summers at their camp at Amethyst Harbour, and she helped many friends and relatives with their tax and estate paperwork.[1]

Death and family

She died on 20 September 2019 in her 75th year after a short illness, with care from the staff of the regional hospital and of St. Joseph's Hospice. There was no formal service, and donations to Hospice Northwest or St. Joseph's Foundation were suggested.[1]

She was survived by her sons Jason (with Bonnie) and Gerry (with Tammy); grandchildren Bradley, A.J. and Mia; brothers Blayne and Roy (with Freda); sisters Beverley and Cara Leigh; brother-in-law Fred; and her god-daughter Karin. Her husband David, her parents Roy Sr and Ida, her parents-in-law Robert and Helmi, her brother-in-law Robert Green and her sister-in-law Laura died before her.[1]

In RALU News

Bonny Wigmore was already a point of contact for members in March 2009, when the newsletter asked members to send their information to her, Ian Dew or Joe Stewart,[2] and she was named as treasurer of the association in the executive lists of April 2014[3] and October 2017.[4] The September 2011 issue calls her "our own Bonny Wigmore, Treasurer of RALU" and notes that she sat on the book committee of Memories of 100 years: Amethyst Harbour (Amethyst Harbour Book Club, 2011), a 398-page coffee-table book with colour photographs sold for $50 at the SRC and Lowery's.[5] The December 2012 issue's "In Memoriam" column recorded the death of her husband David and offered the association's condolences to her and her family.[6]
