Career

• Was a clerk at the Hudson's Bay Company's Poplar Lodge post on Lake Nipigon in about 1868-1871.
• Transferred to Nipigon House in 1871, writing the post's first journal entry on 14 July 1871, and was employed there until 1890.
• Travelled from Nipigon House to the Red Rock post in 1882, sometimes staying for extended periods.

Identity in the records

• Listed as "French" on the 1871 and 1881 censuses for Nipigon.
• Referred to as a "Half-breed" by Father Joseph Hebert in 1877.
