Charlie de Laronde was a mixed-ancestry labourer, postmaster and fisheries overseer at Red Rock on the north shore of Lake Superior.

Career

• Employed by the Hudson's Bay Company as a labourer.
• Moved with his family to Red Rock in 1889, leaving the company's service and settling off-reserve.
• Became postmaster at Nipigon/Red Rock about 1889, the post office being in the Hudson's Bay trading post at Red Rock.
• By 1900 was employed as overseer of the Nipigon River, patrolling and enforcing fishery law.

Family

• Married an Indian woman named Mary in 1880, with whom he had children.
• Adopted a boy named Potan in the early 1880s.
• Although he did not himself receive annuities, his family was carried on the Nipigon Band paylist and, after the move, the Red Rock Band paylist.
