Life
Gordon Arges was born on 5 October 1939, the son of Bernard and Olive Arges; through his mother he was a great-grandson of Peter L'Heureux, and as a boy appeared with four generations of the family in a 1950 newspaper photograph marking his great-grandfather's ninety-fifth birthday.[2] He grew up on Rupert Street and worked for Cascades (Provincial Papers) as a laboratory technician in the control department, retiring after thirty-six years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish.[1]
He married Shirley, with whom he had a daughter, Allison, and a son, Jeffrey; another son, Craig, predeceased him. A lifelong athlete, he competed in marathons, bicycle races and cross-country ski races and was a familiar figure at the Kamview and Lappe ski trails. He died on 7 May 2022 at the Bethammi Nursing Home in Thunder Bay, survived by his brother David Arges.[1]
