Daniel Roy Pakulak (died (2004-07-03)3 July 2004) was a resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Early life

• Born 24 June 1945 in Port Arthur, Ontario.
• Son of Peter Pakylak and Ella Pakylak.
• Grew up in Port Arthur and attended local schools.
• Interest in history first sparked by pre- and post-World War II studies in public school; accumulated newspaper and magazine clippings into several scrapbooks.
• Began operating a karate school while still in high school; attained a black belt in karate.

• Received a BA in History from Lakehead University.
• Received a Master's degree from Queen's University in Kingston.

Career

• Employed at Lakehead University for over 25 years in various positions.
• Started in the Continuing Education Department at Lakehead University.
• Most recently served as Director of International Activities at Lakehead University.
• Spent administrative leave teaching at Gifu University in Gifu, Japan.
• Instrumental in establishing student exchange programs between Lakehead University and Gifu University in Japan.
• Instrumental in establishing exchange programs between Lakehead University and Tyumen State University in the Russian Federation.
• Recipient of an honorary doctorate from Tyumen State University in the Russian Federation.
• Fluent in Russian (reading, speaking, and writing).
• Worked as a karate instructor; many students became lifelong friends.
• Developed an interest in Oriental culture through karate; traveled to Japan, the Soviet Union, Korea, China, and Hong Kong.
• Collected memorabilia from international travels.

• Visitation held the same evening.
