Early life

  • Born 24 June 1945 in Port Arthur, Ontario.
  • Son of Peter Pakylak and Ella Pakylak.
  • Grew up in Port Arthur and attended local schools.
  • Interest in history first sparked by pre- and post-World War II studies in public school; accumulated newspaper and magazine clippings into several scrapbooks.
  • Began operating a karate school while still in high school; attained a black belt in karate.
