Archie McKellar was a resident of Fort William and contributor to early community journalism in the Thunder Bay district.
Early life
- Son of Duncan McKellar and Margaret Brodie.[1]
- Seventh of nine children; siblings, in order of birth: John, Susan, Mary, Peter McKellar, Effie, Donald, Archie, Katie, and Margaret.[1]
Career
- Served as artist for the handwritten community newspaper the Tri-weekly Perambulator, produced in Fort William during the winter of 1874–1875; the paper's editress was Miss Croom and its editor and printer was his brother Peter McKellar.[2][3]
- Was among the most able volunteer contributors to the Fort William Journal, the early newspaper venture of partners Burdock and Patience, alongside Peter McKellar and Archie McLaren.[4]
Family
- His father Duncan McKellar died in Fort William in 1875 at the age of 68.[1]
- His mother Margaret Brodie died in 1890 at the age of 77.[1]
- His sister Susan became the widow of Archie McLaren.[1]
- His sister Katie married F. C. Perry.[1]
- His sister Margaret became the widow of Edward Deacon.[1]
