Sharon Bjorklund (died (2012-11-28)28 November 2012) worked for 43 years in the Registrar's Office of Lakehead University and was a leading volunteer with the Hearing Society of Thunder Bay.[1]

Life and work

Bjorklund spent 43 years in the Registrar's Office at Lakehead University, where she designed the coding system that the office still uses. Staff and faculty who knew her remembered her from there. A 1993 index note records her with 25 years at the university, which is consistent with a start around 1968 and a career that ended about 2011.[1]

She was closely involved with the Hearing Society of Thunder Bay, where she held every executive position, and she received its Volunteer Award of Excellence in recognition of that work.[1] A 1990 index note describes a United Way volunteer profile of her.

Death

The December 2012 issue of RALU News reported that she died on Wednesday, 28 November 2012, and expressed the association's sympathy to her family.[1] An obituary-index entry dated 1 December 2012 gives the same date of death.[2]

Membership

A "Who are we?" list of members printed in the June 2009 issue of RALU News includes "Bjorklund, Sharon", so she was a member of the Retirees' Association of Lakehead University by then.[3]

Newspaper record

  • Biographical notice in The Chronicle-Journal, 1990-09-28.[4]
    • Index note: United Way volunteer profile.
  • Biographical notice in The Chronicle-Journal, 1993-05-07.[5]
    • Age recorded as 25 years.
    • Index note: With LU 25 years.
  • Photo notice in The Chronicle-Journal, 1993-07-09.[6]
    • Index note: Presents award.

Notes

The retirees' notice and the obituary index agree on the exact date of death (28 November 2012), and the 1993 "25 years at LU" note fits the 43-year career, so the newsletter notice and the index entries are treated as one person.
