Reipas Athletic Club
Appearance
The Reipas Athletic Club was a Finnish-Canadian athletic club in the Thunder Bay area, founded in 1955 and disbanded in 2011; its records are held by the Lakehead University Archives.[1]
Reipas hosted the Canadian cross-country ski championships at Intola in 1960 and at Boulevard Lake in 1965.[2] It developed the Tapiola trail complex off Government Road and held the Tapiola Invitational race.[3]
Besides Tapiola, Reipas held many races on trails at Centennial Park; Bayview Magazine credits the club with part of the 1960s rise of cross-country skiing in the area.[2]
