Mount McRae

From thunderbay.wiki

Mount McRae is one of the Nor'Wester Mountains south of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Like Mount McKay, it is a mesa capped by Logan diabase over Animikie sedimentary rocks.[1][2]

The ski jumps of the Little Norway ski hill, later the Big Thunder Ski Jumping Center, were built on its north-east face. The site opened in 1963 and closed on 30 June 1996.[3][4]

The Port Arthur News-Chronicle's 1963–64 reports on Little Norway place it south of Loch Lomond on the Scott Highway / Highway 61, "8 miles south" (or "west") of Fort William, consistent with Mount McRae. Clearing began in April 1963.[5][6][7] See Big Thunder: From the Thunder Bay Museum archives.
