John Roy King

John Roy King (4 October 1858 – 17 June 1940 (aged 81)), born Jean Roy, was a contractor and municipal councillor in Fort William, and one of the most prominent French Canadians in early Fort William.[1]
Early life
King was born Jean Roy on 4 October 1858 in Sainte-Luce, Rimouski County, Quebec. He later chose to anglicize his name to King.
Career
King worked as a construction worker for the Canadian Pacific Railway and as a contractor on the Merchant Town Plot and Fort William Railway. He went on to become a timber and pulpwood contractor. He served as a Neebing councillor in 1890, and as a Fort William councillor in 1895 and 1917.
Death
King died on 17 June 1940 in Fort William.
