David Thompson (4 April 1950 – 8 November 2010 (aged 60)) was a country music artist associated with Thunder Bay.[1][2]
Early life
- Born 4 April 1950 in Kapuskasing, Ontario, the second oldest of eight children.
- Moved to Detroit at age five, living in the United States for approximately fifteen years.
Career
- Lived and worked in Thunder Bay until at least 1987, fronting the band David Thompson And Thunder Road.
- Released his debut album, A Sketch in Country, in 1979 on Citation Records (Thunder Bay), managed and produced by Chuck Williams (based in Thunder Bay). The album's front jacket design and drawing were by Jamie Arges (Thunder Bay), the back jacket photo by Dennis Hill Photographers (Thunder Bay); eight of the ten songs were recorded at Woodland Studios, Nashville, and the remaining two at R.C.A. Studios, Toronto.
- Released a second album, I Never Figured on This (1981, Diamond Records), also produced by Chuck Williams, which yielded six additional top-40 RPM chart entries; the title track reached number one on the RPM Country charts in December 1981.
- Appeared on The Tommy Hunter Show.[2]
- As a travelling musician he was based out of Thunder Bay; in his final years he resided in Aylmer, Ontario.[2]
Family
- Predeceased by his parents and his sister Sherrie Thompson; also predeceased by his aunt Elaine.[2]
- Survived by children Caylex Thompson and Kinnery Thompson of London, Ontario, and Jazmin Matson of Oshawa, Ontario.[2]
- Survived by grandchildren Gabriel Matson, Michael Matson and Rhyan Matson (children of Jazmin Matson).[2]
- Survived by brothers James Thompson, Ken Thompson and Daniel Thompson, and sisters Cynthia Thompson, Susan Thompson and Shellie Thompson.[2]
Death
- Died 8 November 2010 in Aylmer, Ontario.[3][2]
- Memorial service held 5 December 2010 at Dorchester United Church, Dorchester, Ontario.[2]
