According to Thunder Bay BandWiki, there is a separate David Thompson (born April 4, 1950, in Kapuskasing, Ontario; died November 8, 2010, in Aylmer, Ontario) who was a country music artist associated with Thunder Bay. He was the second oldest of eight children and moved to Detroit at age five, living in the United States for approximately fifteen years. Until at least 1987 he lived and worked in Thunder Bay.

He released his debut album, A Sketch in Country, in 1979 on Citation Records (Thunder Bay), managed and produced by Chuck Williams (based in Thunder Bay). The album's front jacket design and drawing were by Jamie Arges (Thunder Bay), the back jacket photo by Dennis Hill Photographers (Thunder Bay), and eight of the ten songs were recorded at Woodland Studios, Nashville, with the remaining two recorded at R.C.A. Studios, Toronto.

His second album, I Never Figured on This (1981, Diamond Records), was also produced by Chuck Williams and yielded six additional top-40 RPM chart entries; the title track reached number one on the RPM Country charts in December 1981.
