Alvin Zapfe (26 July 1931 – 8 January 2019 (aged 87)) was a Port Arthur-born sheet metal worker and Baptist volunteer who spent his life in the Thunder Bay area.[1][2]
Life and family
Zapfe was born in Port Arthur on 26 July 1931, the eldest of four children of Arnold Zapfe and Ragna Zapfe.[1] He worked as a sheet metal worker for Lampshire & Terry, loved the outdoors and hunting, and enjoyed his homestead at Whitefish Lake until poor health forced him to sell it. He volunteered at local Bible camps and was active in the Baptist community.[1]
He never married. He died at St. Joseph's Hospital on 8 January 2019, aged 87, after a period in care. The funeral was held on 24 January 2019 at Westfort Baptist Church, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, and memorial gifts went to the church, Round Lake Bible Camp or the Leslie Hale Ministries.[1]
