William Oikonen (born Vilhelm Oikonen; November 30, 1883 – September 1, 1966) was a businessman and a long-time resident of the Port Arthur area of what is now Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was the founder of Oikonen's Taxi.

Biography

Born in Karvia, Satakunta, Finland, to Matti Juhonpoika Oikonen and Maria Nikolaintytär Oikonen, he later immigrated to Canada. He was married twice, first to Selma Kiviholme (married March 30, 1907) and later to Alma Aleksandra Oikonen. He was the father of Henry William, Ahti Kalervo, Allan Archie, and Leslie Arnold Oikonen.

He died on 1 September 1966 in Fort William, Ontario.[1] He is interred at Riverside Cemetery in Thunder Bay.
