History
The Thunder Bay Flying Club was named in an index of local news items as a feature subject in 1946 (Art Chepil (fl. 1993), M. Slobojan (fl. 1943)) and had a president in 1952 (G. William Exell) and 1953 (Geoffrey Spencer).[2] A regional aviation history says the club moved into one of the wartime training hangars at Fort William Municipal Airport after the war, lost its fleet in the hangar fire of November 1957, and was back in operation within a couple of weeks.[3] Lakehead University's archives hold a file of club papers dated 1960,[4] and a 1988 index entry reports that the club was 60 years old.[5] The 1986 Confederation College yearbook shows the club's hangar sign reading "Thunder Bay Flying Club" (see below), so the 1950 directory entry and the 1986 photograph are the same club in continuous use under one name.
