Sleeping Giant Loppet
Appearance
The Sleeping Giant Loppet is an annual cross-country ski event in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, east of Thunder Bay, Ontario. It began in 1978 as the Thunder Bay Ski Tour, became the Sibley Ski Tour in 1982 and took its present name in 2009.[1]
The Globe and Mail described it as one of the last wilderness loppets, with about 1,000 skiers and a 50 km race around Pickerel and Burma lakes.[2] The 2021 and 2022 events were cancelled because of COVID-19, and the 2024 event for lack of snow; 2026 was the 46th annual event.[1]
