Reverend Donald McKeracher

Reverend Donald W. McKeracher was a Canada Presbyterian Church missionary and minister at Prince Arthur's Landing (later Port Arthur), in the Thunder Bay District of Ontario, in the 1870s.[1][2]
Education
- A third-year student at Knox College, Toronto, in the 1873–1874 session.[2]
- Won the Esson Scholarship ($40, equivalent to $1,191 in 2025) outright, and held a further scholarship jointly with fellow student Isaac Campbell.[2]
Ministry at Prince Arthur's Landing
- In June 1874 the Home Mission Committee of the Canada Presbyterian Church's General Assembly appointed him to labour for two years at Prince Arthur's Landing.[2]
- Because of the distance of the mission, the Presbytery asked that the usual preliminary examination be dispensed with and that it be allowed to take him on public probationary trials for licence and, if satisfied, to ordain him.[2]
- He had already been serving at the Landing as a student missionary in 1873; his diary and notebook of that year preserve the earliest known register of the Prince Arthur's Landing Public School, listing the pupils enrolled as of 7 July 1873 together with their teachers.[1]
