Mildred Salmi (17 September 1935 – 25 February 2017 (aged 81)) was a Thunder Bay-born business owner who operated a carwash in Geraldton and lived in Nolalu.[1][2]
Life and family
Mildred Salmi was born in Thunder Bay on September 17, 1935. She was the daughter of Ladislav and Clementine. She grew up in the region and later moved to Nolalu, where she managed a household without running water. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Hipolit and Ladislav.[1]
She was employed at Dominion Motors and operated several businesses in Thunder Bay alongside her husband. In 1972, the family relocated to Geraldton. There, they established the first carwash in the community, which she managed while her husband worked away during the week. She was known as a firm but respected employer.[1]
She married her husband Jack on May 4, 1957, after meeting him at a dance. She was predeceased by Jack and her son-in-law Jimmy. She was survived by her children Linda, Jack, Lori, Tom, and Randy, as well as their respective partners Thayne, Nina, Glenn, and Nancy. Her survivors also included her sisters Margie and Annie, six grandchildren including Melissa, Jaime, Jenessa, Christopher, Cody, and Natasha, and three great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Madelynn, and Ryleigh.[1]
She died on February 25, 2017, after being treated at Geraldton District Hospital and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. A funeral was held on March 3, 2017, at St. Theresa R.C. church, officiated by Father Roger Pronovost. Arrangements were handled by Résidence funéraire Fawcett Funeral Home, and she was interred at Pinegrove Cemetery.[1]
