Life and family

Mary Ann Morris was born in Winnipeg and moved to the Glebe neighborhood in Ottawa as a child. She attended Queen's University, where she met her husband David. She earned a teaching degree and worked in Toronto as a physical education and mathematics teacher. In the late 1960s, she moved to a hobby farm in Kaministiquia, where she raised her family and became involved with the Kam Community Centre. She later moved into the city and began a second career at the Children's Aid Society, where she eventually managed office operations.[2]

She was highly active in the community, serving as a Cub Master at St John's Church and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Her artistic pursuits included stage management for the Cambrian Players, participating in a spinning and weavers club, and creating stained-glass art. After retiring, she and David spent winters in Desert Hot Springs, where she took up golf, hiking, and Spanish classes. She also traveled to the Isle of Barra to explore her heritage.[2]

She was predeceased by her husband David and her son Barry. She was survived by her son Kevin and his wife Diana Schreier, grandsons Isaac and Sebastian, her twin brother John and his wife Fran, and her sister Jane. She also left behind many friends, including Di, Jim, Ellen, Robert, Vera, Heidi, Lorna, Heather G., Sharon, Susan, Heather M., and Ruth.[2]

She died at her home in Thunder Bay on September 21, 2022. She had recently resided at Chartwell Glacier Ridge. Following her wishes, she was cremated, and a celebration of life was planned for a later date. Donations were suggested to the George Jeffery Children's Foundation.[2]
