Louis Bouchard Sr. was a fur-trade employee and the patriarch of the mixed-ancestry Bouchard family of Nipigon House.[1]
Life
- Described by the inspector J. A. Macrae as "a Frenchman" who married the Indian sister of Chief Manitshainse, a signatory of the Robinson-Superior Treaty.
- Appears on the 1853 paylist of the Michipicoten Indian Band.
- Employed at Nipigon House between 1859 and 1872.
- He and his wife appear to have had at least seven children.
- The report separately documents an HBC employee named Louis Bouchard, from Maskinonge in Lower Canada, who signed a marriage contract with Charlotte Fainiant of Fort William in 1828; it is not certain whether this was the same man.
