J. Silles was a farmer in Port Arthur, in the Thunder Bay District of Ontario. The surrogate-court probate records list three different decedents named J. Silles in the district; this article covers the one whose estate was probated at Port Arthur in 1886.
The estate was probated in the Thunder Bay District surrogate court in 1886 and inventoried at $4,631.60 (equivalent to $179,040 in 2025). He died testate, leaving a will, and was survived by five children.[1]
