In his youth, he was employed by the CNR for a short period, followed by a position at Chapples. He eventually worked as a patrolman for the MTO.[1]

In 1964, he married Carol Jonah, and the couple remained together for 47 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, often visiting Brownsville, Texas.[1]

He was survived by his wife Carol, daughter Karen and her husband Jeff, and son James and his wife Judy. His survivors also included his brother Danny and his wife Carol, sisters-in-law Marianne, Betty, and Rosemary and her husband Bill, and brother-in-law David, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.[1]

He died on April 22, 2012, at the Thunder Bay Regional Science Centre. Following his wishes, no funeral was held. He was cremated, with interment planned for a later date in Beardmore. Arrangements were handled through Northwest Funeral Alternative.[1]
