Life and family

Elizabeth Sutton, known as Betty, was born in East Braintree, Manitoba, to parents Peter and Dora Perchuk. She grew up on the family farm before moving to Fort William with her sister Georgina. In Fort William, she was employed at the Chapples clothing store. She later married Robert, and the couple relocated to Red Rock, Ontario, in 1952.[1]

In her community, she served as a leader for the Brownies and was known for her culinary skills, particularly making perogies and cooking for guests at the Quebec Lodge. She spent much of her time at the family camp at Stewart Lake, where she enjoyed gardening, picking berries, and outdoor activities like fishing and boating.[1]

She was predeceased by her daughter Kerry, her son Robert, and a great-grandchild Jordin. She was survived by her husband Robert, her sister Georgina, and her brother Bill. Her surviving family included her son David and his wife Alba, son-in-law Glenn and his partner June, and daughter-in-law Tasha and her partner James. She also left behind grandchildren Pierre and his partner Kerry, Dennis and Kim, Cali and Ben, Tess and Matt, Kym and Mike, Jenna and Chad, and DJ and Sarah. Her surviving great-grandchildren were Raelyn, Ashley, William, Mya, Lynden, Emma, Avalon, Addison, and Preston.[1]

She died on January 21, 2016, at the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital. A memorial service was scheduled for January 30, 2016, at the Hurkett Community Centre. Donations were directed to the Hurkett Children's Playground Committee.[1]

Possibly related records

  • Probably not the same as E. Sutton, a trainer of the 1925–26 Port Arthur Seniors (from the Hall of Fame team roster): the name is similar, but the person in that record was born in 1928, too late for 1925, the earliest year recorded for this person.[6]
