Elizabeth Hetman (20 August 1925 – 12 August 2016 (aged 90)) was a Soviet Union-born homemaker who lived in Madsen and Thunder Bay.[1][2]
Life and family
Elizabeth Hetman, known as Liza, was born in Orel, Soviet Union, to Jan and Alexandra Fokin. She married Michael Hetman in Hamburg, Germany, where they began their family. After Michael moved to Canada, she and their daughter Marta joined him in 1950. They lived in Madsen, Ontario, where their second daughter, Irene, was born. She spent her life caring for her family and their home.[1]
She enjoyed various outdoor activities including gardening and picking blueberries. She was a skilled baker and cook, known for making bread, perogies, and borshe. She also spent time knitting, crocheting, and sewing clothes for her children. She often accompanied her husband on fishing trips, where she took on the task of cleaning the fish.[1]
She was survived by her daughters Marta Faulkner and Irene, along with her son-in-law Robert. She was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Alexandra Fokin. Other relatives remained in the Soviet Union.[1]
She died at Lakehead Manor on August 12, 2016. A funeral service was held at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross with Father Stepan Didur officiating. Arrangements were handled by the WESTFORT CHAPEL, and she was interred at Mountainview Cemetery.[1]
