For an older Edward Sarachman who lived in Port Arthur in 1943 and 1950, see Edward Sarachman (coatingman). Edward Frederick Sarachman ((1940-10-31)31 October 1940 – 16 May 2025(2025-05-16) (aged 84)) was a Port Arthur-born Thunder Bay man who worked on lake ships and in the grain elevators and later for the City of Thunder Bay.[1][2]

Life and family

Edward Frederick Sarachman was born in Port Arthur on 31 October 1940 and grew up there.[1] He worked on the ships and in the grain elevators and was later employed by the City of Thunder Bay.[1]

Outside work he played baseball, pool and curling and was a keen angler; he and his wife Evelyn camped and fished at several northwestern Ontario lakes including Pass Lake and Watcom Lake.[1] He was predeceased by Evelyn, by his daughter Diana, by his parents and by brothers-in-law Raymond and Gerry. He is survived by his sister Bev (and her husband Dale), his son Richard Sarachman and Richard's wife Carla, and by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.[1]

He died on 16 May 2025.[1] A graveside service was held at O'Connor Free Methodist Church Cemetery on Earl Road on 1 June 2025, with a celebration of life at the O'Connor Township Community Hall.[1]

Newspaper record

  • Biographical notice in Fort William Daily Times-Journal, 1960-02-29.[3]
    • Age recorded as 19 years.
    • Index note: In accident.

Notes

  • The 1943 air-force recruiting notice and the 1950 Henderson's listing (coatingman at Provincial Paper, wife Dollie) describe an adult in those years, so they belong to an older namesake and were moved to Edward Sarachman (coatingman). The 1960 accident notice giving his age as 19 matches the obituary's birth date of 31 October 1940.
