David Luther John Griffiths (1872 – 1942), known in the family as Luther, was a Welshman of Maesteg, Glamorgan. He married Bessie Martha True of the True Family and was the father of eleven children, among them David Reese Griffiths; this makes Luther the grandfather of family genealogist Dan Griffiths.
Marriage and family
- Married Bessie Martha True, a daughter of Henry True and Ann White, at the register office in Bridgend on 28 March 1892.[1]
- The couple had eleven children between 1892 and 1913, ten of whom survived into adulthood.
- At the 1901 census the household was at 3 Harvey Street, Maesteg, with children recorded as Cyril, Edith, Beatrice, John, Henry and Katie.[2]
- Katie died in 1905.[2]
- By 1911 the family had moved to 5 South Parade — the house in which Bessie's father Henry True had died the previous year.[2]
- His son David Reese Griffiths (1913 – 1988) was the youngest of the eleven.
