He attended Ogden Street School, McKellar Park Central and Selkirk High School, was a member of the Fort William Air Cadet Squadron, and studied refrigeration and heating at Algonquin College in Ottawa.[1]

In the military reserve he served with the 736 Communication Squadron as a lineman, with a posting to CFB Baden in Germany, and rose to squadron sergeant major; he helped set up the radio towers for the squadron's annual "Talk to Santa" program and retired as a master warrant officer.[1] As a civilian he was assistant manager of the Intercity Radio Shack and then a certified non-destructive examination technician, inspecting pipes, pressure vessels and welds in northwestern Ontario, Fort McMurray and southern Ontario nuclear plants until illness forced his retirement.[1]

He was a member of Knox United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch 129 and the Brotherhood of Boilermakers, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He died on 15 June 2021, aged 62.[1]
