Charles Henry Sands (1911 – 6 April 1953) was a Canadian ice hockey right winger from Fort William who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. Sands won the Stanley Cup with Boston in 1939.[1]
Sources disagree on his exact date of birth: the Wikipedia-derived biography gives 23 March 1911,[1] while an Elite Prospects record gives 23 May 1911;[2] both agree on the year and day of month.
Career
Before reaching the NHL, Sands played locally in the TBSHL for the Fort William Forts in 1929–30 and the Port Arthur Ports from 1930 to 1932. He played forward, shooting right, and was listed at 5'11" (180 cm) and 170 lb (77 kg); his final recorded season was 1946–47 with the Fresno Falcons of the PCHL.[2]
