Charles McKay was a mixed-ancestry lighthouse keeper at Battle Island on Lake Superior.[1]
Life
- Son of Alexander William McKay, described as a "half breed of the Chippaway Nation" at Lake Huron.
- Lived with the Indians, probably those at Pays Plat, for several years.
- Became lighthouse keeper at Battle Island in 1877, "having rowed up from Sault Ste. Marie in a punt".
