Mary Beatrice Anderson (12 September 1930 – 29 July 2021 (aged 90)) was a Sturgeon Falls-born nurse and competitive athlete who lived in Thunder Bay and was a long-time member of the Gyro club.[1][2]
Life and family
Bea was born in Sturgeon Falls to Otto and Meadie Wagner. She grew up in Smooth Rock Falls and was the youngest of five siblings. She began a career in nursing and later married Ron, with whom she shared over 51 years of marriage. The couple lived in Fort William, The Pas, Manitoba, and Montreal, Quebec, before returning to Thunder Bay in 1977.[1]
A talented athlete, she played tennis, badminton, softball, and golf. She represented Northwestern Ontario at the Canadian Bowling Championships and remained a fan of curling and tennis throughout her life. She and her husband were active members of the Gyro club, traveling to conventions across North America. They spent ten winters in Naples, Florida, and summers at their camp on Lake Shebandowan, where she participated in Kabaigon Bay Days activities.[1]
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Ron. She was survived by her son Jim and his partner Cherie Russell, and daughters Marla and her husband Andrew Hill, Cindy and her husband Nixon White, and Susan and her husband Don Kennedy. Her grandchildren include Ashley, Cole and his partner Stephanie Craig, Lauren and her husband Byron Advent, Davis Hill, Chloe, Riley White, Emma, James, and Curtis Kennedy.[1]
Bea died on July 29, 2021, at Lake Shebandowan. A private celebration of life was planned for a later date. Donations were suggested to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.[1]
