Life and family
Antonio Marrello was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on April 7, 1927, to parents Giuseppe and Raffaela. He married Giustina in 1952. In 1960, he immigrated to Canada with his wife and their son John. He initially found work as a labourer and cement worker before beginning a long career with CN Railway. He remained with the railway for 27 years until his retirement in 1991.[1]
A resident of Thunder Bay, he was known for his skill as a handyman and gardener, particularly for his grape vines. He was a dedicated member of St. Anthony’s Parish, where he participated in weekly social gatherings and card games. Following his wife's illness, he took on all domestic responsibilities and became an accomplished cook and baker. He lived at Hogarth Riverview Manor during his final year.[1]
He was predeceased by his wife Giustina, his son John, his parents, his brother Giacomo, and his brother-in-law Michele Magarelli. He was survived by his son Mario and daughter-in-law Pam, his grandson Justin and his partner Madison, and his siblings Giovanni Marrello, Antonietta Vetere, and Giuseppe Marrello. He was also survived by his sister-in-law Antonietta Magarelli and his nephew P.M. Stilla.[1]
He died peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor on June 17, 2017. Funeral services were held at Harbourview Funeral Centre followed by a mass at St. Anthony’s Church. He was buried at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.[1]
