Alice Charette (29 July 1936 – 13 August 2014 (aged 78)) was a Stanley, Ontario-born farmer and seamstress who raised her family at Nolalu and Shebandowan.[1][2]
Life and family
Charette was born on 29 July 1936 in Stanley, Ontario, the youngest of ten children of John and Katherine Horofker, and helped her mother on the family dairy farm. In the 1950s she worked as a waitress at "The Vic", where she met her future husband Ernest.[1]
In the 1970s the family moved to Nolalu, where she ran a farm and sold butter, milk and eggs, and they later moved to Shebandowan. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter and cook.[1] She died at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on 13 August 2014, aged 78, survived by her children and grandchildren; her husband died before her. A celebration of life was held on 17 August 2014.[1]
