Alexander "Sandy" Leaver (born 1944 – died 11 February 2022) was a Scottish-born baker, salesman and contractor who emigrated to Thunder Bay in 1974.[1][2]
Life and family
Leaver was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1944, one of six children of John and Janet Leaver. He trained at the City & Guilds of London Art School and worked six years as a baker before emigrating in 1974 to Thunder Bay, where his sister Cath was already living.[1] He sold for General Foods across northwestern Ontario, then became a respected contractor and craftsman, handy with mechanics.[1]
He built a camp at Shebandowan Lakes and a water-ski course at Moose Bay, and was a keen water skier, boater and fisher. He loved Jaguar cars and antique car shows, and often visited Scotland.[1] He died on 11 February 2022, survived by his companion Rita Foshang, sons Alan, Dennis and Paul in the United Kingdom, stepchildren Lisa and Kristopher LaBelle, five grandchildren and his sister and brothers.[1]
