A. F. Hawkins was the terminal superintendent of the Canadian Pacific Railway at Fort William.[1][2]
Career
- Served as terminal superintendent of the Canadian Pacific Railway at Fort William.[2]
- Attended the unveiling ceremonies held at the Head of the Lakes, alongside other local pioneers and dignitaries including Peter McKellar, Mayor Joseph E. Crawford, and Miss M. J. L. Black.[1]
- Spoke at the ceremony as the first invited speaker, introduced by Mayor Crawford as chairman; recalled the events of the cutting of the first sod of the C.P.R. by Adam Oliver, presided over by D. D. Van Norman, and described the gala day celebrations in Fort William on that occasion.[2]
- Outlined the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway and its role in the political history of Canada, paid tribute to Sir John A. Macdonald, to George Stephen (Lord Mountstephen), and to the early founders and builders of the railway.[2]
