The Aircrafter

From thunderbay.wiki

The Aircrafter was the weekly newspaper of the Canadian Car and Foundry plant in Fort William, published from 7 May 1944 to 11 August 1945.[1]

Eight pages long, it was printed "for and by employees" and handed out at the gate; its first managing editor was general works manager J. J. Russell, followed from October 1944 by W. O. Will, and the editor was R. M. Walker, a former Fort William newspaperman who enlisted in 1939 and served three years as a Fort William alderman. Wartime paper rationing meant the plant had to obtain a government permit to publish it. It is the subject of an article by Helen Smith and Pamela Wakewich (1997).[2]
