Kevin Sidlar, born (1978-06-18) 18 June 1978 (age 48) is a Thunder Bay man, the originator of Thunder Bay BandWiki in 2004, which had contributions until 2023, and is now archived on ThunderBay.wiki.

As of 2026 he works for TbayTel.

Family

His paternal grandparents were Iris Elsie Sidlar (née Slyk) (1929 – 18 June 2020)[1][2] and Orist Sidlar (died 1996).[3] Iris was born in Fort William, the daughter of Pauline Slyk[4] and John Slyk.[5]

Orist's father, John Sidlar (19 August 1900 – 1979),[6] emigrated to Manitoba together with his own father, Nykola Sidlar,[7] and settled in the Rossburn district, a centre of Ukrainian block settlement on the Manitoba Prairies. John married there on 2 February 1926.[6]

Personal Website

He has used the online moniker "tjernobyl", a reference to his Ukrainian heritage (the city of Chernobyl [1]).

From 2005 to 2022 he maintained a personal website at https://tjernobyl.org ; the last capture of it by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine looked like this: [2] Its content was unchanged for the entire run from 2005 - 2022, linking to two things: bandwiki and, under the "toys" section, a web-based procedural image generator for "Nishigana".

Nishigana itself appears to have been one person's experimental constructed alphabet, likely with procedural/stroke-based glyphs that could be algorithmically drawn rather than hand-designed for every character. This kind of tool was popular in the early online conlang scene for quickly prototyping and sharing "exotic" writing systems. It's a fun relic of early-2000s web toy culture and niche creative communities—simple PHP scripts turning parameters into generative art for language nerds. The site is long gone, but the Wayback captures preserve the interface exactly as you saw it.

BandWiki

From 2004, initially BandWiki was hosted at his personal website https://tjernobyl.org/bandwiki; it was not a MediaWiki hosted at bandwiki.ca until about 2008. An early version: https://web.archive.org/web/20050204060720/http://www.tjernobyl.org/bandwiki/
